Server Access Limitation - Server Rack Security

Apart from data security, server rack security is another thing to consider when talking about server access. In order to track changes in the server and to ensure the network service availability, the server access should be limited only to those who are qualified and authorized.

To set up physical server access limitation, server rack security requires optional front, side and rear panel additions, lock latches, latchguard , padlock, screwdriver, and tamper-proof screws for each optional panel.

First of all, consult the manufacturer instructions to mount the optional side panels for the server rack. It is recommended to use the tamper-proof screws rather than the screws supplied with the side panels. Then, continue the same process for the optional rear panel for the server rack.

After you are done with mounting both side and rear panels, attach the front panel lock latch to the server rack's frame by using tamper-proof screws. Keep working on attaching the front panel hinges to the other side of the server rack. Allow the hinge screws to be a bit loose so you can adjust the front panel in the next step.

Next, attach the front panel to the hinges of the server rack frame by using tamper-proof screws. Make sure that the front panel is in line with the lock latches on the server rack, if not, adjust the front panel until the locking is fit. Once you are done adjusting the server rack frame to the front panel, tighten the screws, close the front panel door, and secure it with a padlock.

Finally, don't forget to set up a latchguard on the rack room access and, most importantly, don't forget to keep all the keys in a safe place.
